Christina Lampe-Onnerud

Recognized for more than 25 years of developing and commercializing Lithium-ion (Li-ion) batteries, Dr. Lampe-Onnerud is founder and chief executive officer of Cadenza Innovation, Inc., a growth-stage company providing safe, high-energy-density, low-cost batteries and energy storage solutions to the transportation, utility and commercial/industrial (C&I) markets. An authority on topics ranging from battery safety, supply chain, manufacturing, climate change and women entrepreneurship to the transformation from fossil fuels and new financial and partnering models driving that transition, she holds more than 80 patents and has delivered multiple battery industry firsts across the portable electronics, electric vehicle (EV), utility and sectors. Earlier in her career, Dr. Lampe-Onnerud founded and served as CEO and International Chairman of Boston-Power, a battery company providing products to the consumer electronics, transportation and other end markets. While there, she took the firm from a startup to a global organization backed by more than $400 million in investment with technology centers in Beijing and Boston as well as multiple Asia-based Six-Sigma manufacturing locations. She transitioned from the company to assume an executive position at Bridgewater Associates. Prior to Boston-Power, she was a partner with Arthur D. Little, where she led the world’s largest non-captive battery lab and related practice. In that role, she advised many of the world’s market leaders on technology and go-to-market strategies.

Dr. Lampe-Onnerud’s efforts have prompted numerous appointments and awards. She currently serves as a co-chair with the U.S. Department of Energy’s Li-bridge’s initiative, a public-private partnership tasked with developing a national strategy for creating a sustainable and robust U.S. supply chain for lithium batteries. She is also a board member with the New York Battery and Energy Storage Technology Consortium. Recognized as a two-time Technology Pioneer by the World Economic Forum, she served the organization as co-chair of its Global Futures Council on Energy. Honored as an Ernst & Young (EY) Entrepreneur of the Year for the New England region, she is active in EY’s Entrepreneurial Winning Women annual competition and executive education program. Featured among Inc.’s inaugural list of Top 100 Female Founders, she is a member of MIT’s Visiting Committee. A sought-after keynote speaker, Dr. Lampe-Onnerud has shared her insights at events hosted by The Wall Street Journal, Fortune, The United Nations, TED, The World Bank, The Energy Storage Association, The International Battery Conference, the US Department of Energy, MIT and many others.

Dr. Lampe-Onnerud holds a Ph.D. in Inorganic Chemistry from Uppsala University, Sweden, and conducted post-doctoral work at MIT. She was recently awarded Sweden’s King’s Medal and is a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences.
