H.E. Rasheed Al Maraj was appointed to his current role as Governor of the Central Bank of Bahrain (CBB) (formerly the Bahrain Monetary Agency (BMA)), an appointment, which carries ministerial ranking, in January 2005. As Governor, Mr. Al Maraj is the CBB’s chief executive. In addition to responsibility for ensuring monetary and financial stability in the Kingdom of Bahrain, the CBB is also the single regulator of the financial services industry in the country. Prior to his appointment to the CBB, Mr. Al Maraj had executive public and private sector experience including finance, engineering and management. With the Bahrain government he has held senior level positions with the (then) Finance and National Economy Ministry (Assistant Under-Secretary) and the Ministry of Transportation (Under-Secretary). Immediately prior to his CBB appointment, Mr. Al Maraj was General Manager and Chief Executive Officer of the Arab Petroleum Investments Company (APICORP) based in Damam in Saud Arabia.He currently site on the boards of the Bahrain Economic Development Board (EDB), the National Oil and Gas Authority (NOGA) and is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Oxford Institute for Energy Studies, UK, and has previously served as Chairman of the Bahrain Telecommunications Company, as a member of the Consultation Council of the Co-operation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf and the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) of Bahrain.
